I. Traveling Music

Soloist is introduced as an alien, arriving unexpectedly and playing mysterious percussion instruments in unfamilar ways.

                                                                                                                -- Michael Daugherty

I spent a lot of time experimenting with different ways to play one instrument; really getting to know each and every sound one object can produce and combining it with an instrument that is unique to us all…our voice. Mimicking sounds created on the waterphone and experimenting with different vowels and effects of my voice, the possibilities are endless.

Every hall is built differently and the journey is never the same (literally!) As performers we feed off our audience’s energy, and it is quite an experience to interact so closely with the listener, making the connection all the more intimate. Collaborating with a single musician, (piano) there is a greater flexibility of time, allowing the effect to be completely unpredictable and mysterious.
